Flamingo Sundays - Sundays at Club Europe
Atlanta
June 29, 2003
Review by Nanette.
Sundays after our salsa "descarga" at Piedmont Park, I'm always wanting
for more dancing. I do a couple of Salsa Atlanta's rueda classes, but am
still left hankering for a real taste of getting down in a club setting.
6/22 I took that hankering on over to Club Europe in the CBS building near
Spaghetti Junction.
There is a group of regulars from the Atlanta salsa scene that meet
there every Sunday the weather permits. This is fast becoming my favorite
dance venue of the week!
This is "Casino haven".
The 2nd Tuesday of every month this Meditteranian-influenced
restaurant gives Julián Mejía the room in the back and
run of the music selection. All salsa is played. Julian's emphasis is
on Cuban style dancing and music ("casino/Timba and Son").
... Perk number two is the wide variety of latin music played in this
joint. In the past this attempt to please everyone has been the kiss
of death for many a new contender. But we're not talking Shakira/Julio
Iglesias pop and merengue until you're too exhausted. We're talking Carnaval
rhythms from Brazil, cha-cha, mambo, fun stuff that the Atlanta scene
likes to dance.
